[YOUTH SESSION]Shaping Peaceful and Inclusive Cities of Tomorrow

Urbanization has been one of the most significant driving forces of recent global development. But while urbanization is moving the global economy forward, rising inequality and exclusion within cities may derail development progress. Poorly planned urbanization has resulted in economic disorder, civil unrest, congestion, and environmental degradation. Also, it often leaves the vulnerable population such as women, children and persons with disabilities (PWD), to face barriers to participation in society and quality of life, ranging from having to face discrimination, violence, or limited access to infrastructure and basic public services.

To make sure that tomorrow’s cities provide opportunities and better living conditions for all, it is essential to understand the concept of inclusive cities and shape them to attain long-term sustainability. In this regard, UNITAR CIFAL Jeju, through its 19th Youth Workshop, invited our future leaders, the youth to learn about inequalities and challenges in current cities and design their own solutions to create a mindful and people-centered city. This session will explore some of the most innovative ideas by the youth and discuss the way forward for shaping cities of coexistence and peace.
