Peace is the key challenge for sustainable development. In this regard, the UN urged the international community to secure finance for development to prevent conflicts. Protracted conflict in Yemen and the latest war between Russia and Ukraine have aroused the need for ‘post-conflict peace-building’, which helps overcome the path dependency of conflict.
Due to its advanced industrialization compared to other fragile states, the cost of reconstruction in Ukraine is expected to exceed the Marshall plan. Therefore, it is essential to secure additional finance for development. As the international community and the Northern and Western European countries show much support for Ukraine, it will display different post-war peace-building and reconstruction phases.
In this session, we will predict the post-war peace regime in Ukraine and propose a future direction of South Korea’s international cooperation strategy based on peace-building for Ukraine with an analysis of cases from Europe and around the world that combine post-conflict peace-building and international cooperation.
