Biography
Juneseo Hwang studied sociology at Sungkonghoe University while being active in environmental and peace movements. His experience as a campaigner led to studying peace studies at the University of Bradford, England. After his study, he received funding from the Korea Foundation to do a one-year research internship at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, where he conducted research on sustainable peacebuilding and tackling organized crime. Currently, he is a PhD student at Queen’s University Belfast, writing a thesis on triple—political, social, and ecological—transformation towards sustainable peace. His research areas are environmental peacebuilding, sustainable peace, green criminology, ecological justice, and justice and security sector reform. He has published journal articles on transboundary conservation and environmental peacebuilding, organized crime and policing, and international criminal justice cooperation.
