Education lies at the heart of human development—serving as a foundation for basic needs fulfillment, economic opportunity, self-realization, and global citizenship. Yet, the global education landscape is currently undergoing profound transformation and strain.
Rapid technological advancement, particularly in digitalization and artificial intelligence (AI), is reshaping how knowledge is delivered and acquired. While these innovations open new frontiers in learning, they also risk deepening inequalities between and within countries. The digital divide—especially pronounced in developing regions—continues to limit equitable access to quality education.
In this context, the role of UNESCO has become more critical than ever. As the leading UN agency for education, UNESCO has spearheaded global initiatives such as Education for All and the Education 2030 Agenda, while promoting inclusive, equitable, and quality education worldwide.
