Voice of Youth about Settlement in Jeju

Many young Koreans have photos taken in Jeju posted on their social media. As more of these young people decorate their social media with pictures of Jeju, the island is increasingly considered a place full of hope and romance. What is actually happening is that the youth population in Jeju is thinning. Jeju, a base for the youth to domicilate, should be the place where they are able to design their dream with a guarantee of peace and prosperity. However, the population outflow in the young generation is a severe issue in Jeju, which stems from the scarcity of quality infrastructure, scarcity in quality infrastructure including jobs, education, and leisure, as well as the local culture.
In this session, questions will be asked about whether Jeju, the island of world peace, is the right place of peace and prosperity for the youth, and whether Jeju fits as a good place to domiciliate both the youth in Jeju and those from other regions who decided to settle down in Jeju as well. Furthermore, we will have a chance to listen firsthand to the voice of the youth on what they have in mind about Jeju’s infrastructure and local culture. This will be followed by a discussion where experts from different fields will be taking part as discussants in search of possible solutions.
