In September 2020, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain agreed to normalize relations with Israel by signing the Abraham Accords, under the mediation of the Trump administration. Amid growing general interest in which Arab states would be next to sign onto the peace treaty, Sudan and Morocco joined in the normalization of relations. The Abraham Accords is receiving enormous attention as a key to the recent changes in the Middle Eastern political situation and is expected to have a profound impact on regional political dynamics.
This session aims to discuss the background, ramifications, and future prospects of the Abraham Accords, focusing on the UAE and Israel. Specifically, we will look at the background of normalization between the UAE and Israel with an analysis of U.S. political positions, and review how current cooperation between the two countries is progressing. In addition, we also examine to what extent the UAE-Israel cooperation can be developed and highlight the prospect of other Arab countries following the trend of normalization.
