Session

Strengthening North Korea Sanctions in Cyber and Maritime Domains

In 2022, North Korea carried out the most number of missile provocations ever. Yet sanctions response has remained muted due to the dysfunction at the UN Security Council, precipitated by the war in Ukraine and US-China tension. In the background of international community’s inaction, North Korea has increased its profit-driven cyber criminal activities and illicit ship-to-ship transfers that have greatly undermined the sanctions regime. The purpose of this session is to diagnose the current state of North Korea sanctions and discuss international response and cooperation against North Korea’s illicit activities in cyber and maritime domains.
