Biography

Mr. Mun Chong Hyun is currently the director and head of the security center at Genians, an IT security company. He was born in January 1977 in Seoul, Korea and majored in electrical and electronic engineering. Since 1996, he has been conducting research into malware threats. In August 2001, he had an online conversation with a person who claimed that he is a member of the North Korean military and attending Mirim University, and this led him to conduct full-scale research on North Korea\'s cyber threat activities. For the past 20 years, Mr. Mun has been immersed in the study of state-sponsored hacking organizations. In December 2014, he was awarded the Prime Minister\'s Commendation for Information Security Merit in recognition for having contributed to the prompt public-private response against North Korean hacking attacks targeting the Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Center. In 2019, he was named the ISLA Information Security Merit at an awards ceremony held in Hong Kong for his research related to human intelligence in North Korea. He also received a commendation from the Ministry of Science and ICT for his contributions against North Korean cyber threats and the development of the information security industry.
