Maiko Takeuchi is a visiting fellow at Waseda University and formerly a member of the UN Panel of Experts on North Korea. Ms. Takeuchi has over twenty years of experience in the United Nations and the Japanese Government. Throughout her career, she developed expertise in national security and economic sanctions. In the Japanese government, she served as a defense policy officer at the Defense Ministry, covering a range of national security issues, including cyber defense and emergency response legislation. She also served the Ministry of Trade, Economy and Industry, and the Japanese embassy in the Republic of Korea, and the Cabinet Secretariat. She holds a Master of Arts (Regional Studies-East Asia) from Harvard University, a Master of Laws in International Legal Studies from New York University, and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Tokyo.
