Carbon-free society aims to promote sustainable development based on saving the original quality of nature for citizens to enjoy material affluence and convenience in environmental amenities. The key means to achieve a carbon-free society is the energy sector. However, other socio-economic sectors such as land-use, building, transport, green space, living environment, waste, etc., all of which are related to energy use, should be transformed into a new system. In a word, such means being mobilized to achieve a carbon-free society are synthesized for improving eco-efficiency. Jeju Provincial Government is promoting World Environmental Hub by 2020, and Carbon-free Island by 2030. In this context, this session seeks for efficient and effective approach to the improvement of eco-efficiency in the process of promoting a “Carbon-free Island Jeju by 2030” through keynote speech and discussion.
