Prof. Young-Pyo Seo studied Korean History at Seoul National University, and then received his MA and PhD degrees in sociology from the University of Essex, UK. He had worked as a research professor at the Democracy Institute of Sungkonghoe University from 2008 to 2011. Since 2012, he has been teaching at the Department of Sociology at Jeju National University. The title of the PhD thesis was “The Theoretical Reflections on the Radical Greater London Council (1981-6) and Its Implication for the British New Left.” His research interests began with the British New Left movement and local politics, and, after finishing the thesis, developed into environmental sociology. He published many academic papers on environmental sociology, urban sociology, social theory, political sociology, and British politics.
