A Tragic Incident, Jeju 4.3 brought about the unprecedented level of sacrifice caused by the state power in the context of the Cold War. In particular, 2020 is the 75th year since the division of the Korean peninsula, as well as the 70th year after the Korean War. Now, we should look back on the 20th century from the standpoint of the Korean peninsula, where the nation has been formally divided, which is a notable case for a global audience. The massacres amid the Jeju 4.3, the Korean War, and the division gave rise to unfathomable, both in quantitative and qualitative measures, diasporic experiences within and outside of the Korean peninsula. The war and conflict have not ended in the 21st century. With the topic of “70th year of the Korean War and 4·3-Approach for Peace,” we investigate the presence of division and diaspora caused by the Jeju 4.3 and the warfare in the present reflection, with a hope for peace, reunification, human rights, and reconciliation.
