The importance of recycling waste through resource circulation is becoming more significant as sustainable development has become a new paradigm in international society. Recent China’s ban on foreign waste imports acknowledges Korea can no longer avoid duty on a waste problem. So Korea is expected to transfer into this new paradigm in processing waste overall with the implementation of the Framework Act on Resource Circulation in 2018. The shift of paradigm is expected to take place across all areas of waste management in Korea. Upcycling waste is becoming a new solution, as recycling contributes to saving resources and improving productivity with increasing demands on the role of local governments and other public sectors. In this session, we are going to share various opinions from experts in the relevant fields in order to set a foundation for a resource circulation society.
