The first and second generations who experienced the Jeju 4・3 are few in number left. Should the terrible memories be forgotten or passed down? Han Kang's recent Nobel Prize in Literature says otherwise. In the information age, understanding the vast facts of the past may feel burdensome, but history is not a list of facts, but a task of being conscious of responsibility, raising questions about reality, and reflecting. On the other hand, much of the state violence that has occurred in modern times occurred in the process of clashes between various powers across borders, and there are many points that can only be understood from an international perspective. In this session, we look at Jeju 4・3 from a transnational perspective and explore from a variety of perspectives the reasons why the past must be endlessly recalled from a cultural and educational perspective.
