Biography

Daniela VOELKER CONOLLY is a London-based documentary filmmaker specialising in character-led, access-driven narratives. She is the producer and director of the recent critically acclaimed theatrical documentary 'The Commandant's Shadow’ (HBO and Warner Brothers), which explores the lasting effect traumatic events in the past have on those who lived through them and their descendants. She has more than two decades of filmmaking for international broadcasters and streamers under her belt, and has covered a great variety of topics; they include the current state of the Sicilian mafia (‘Vendetta- Truth, Lies and the Mafia’ - Netflix), the down fall of civilisations in Peru’s Southern desert (‘Nazca Desert Mystery ’- PBS, France Televisions, NHK), the war in Ukraine (‘A year in Ukraine’ ZDF, Histoire.) She has also made films for CNN Channel 4 and National Geographic. Daniela VOELKER CONOLLY started her career at the BBC, where she worked in world current affairs, history, science, religion. She produced and directed more than twenty documentaries on subjects including the toxic legacy of Argentina’s Dirty War, the land issue in Zimbabwe and the aftermath of Rwandan genocide.
