The ROK’s Indo-Pacific Strategy for Denuclearization, Peace, and Prosperity of the Korean Peninsula

India-Pacific and adjacent regions are becoming the focal point of global diplomacy and security discourse as U.S.-China rivalry intensifies around Asia, including India.
The Strategy for a Free, Peaceful, and Prosperous Indo-Pacific Region (referred to as the "Strategy") was unveiled in December 2022 by the Yoon Suk Yeol administration to carry out a vision for a "global pivotal state (GPS)" in the Indo-Pacific era of the twenty-first century. The Yoon administration is currently devising concrete steps to implement the Strategy by breaking it down into comprehensive regional diplomacy, value diplomacy, and contribution diplomacy. Among the challenges facing South Korea's Indo-Pacific strategy are the elimination of Chinese threats, the promotion of ROK-U.S.-Japan trilateral cooperation, and the resolution of North Korea's nuclear issue.
This session examines the perceptions and policy responses of neighboring nations to South Korea's Indo-Pacific strategy. The session also explores how to relate them to South Korea's policy on foreign affairs, security, North Korea, and unification.
