Session
Energy Security in the Age of Polycrisis: From Fossil Fuels to Resilient Systems
Date- June 24 (Wed.)
Time- 17:10 ~ 18:30
Organization- NEXT group
Room- Crystal Hall D
Subject- Environment / Climate Change
This session focuses on the systematization of energy security as its core agenda and discusses the direction Korea should take in the era of the ‘Polycrisis’.
The U.S.-Iran conflict and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz have once again highlighted the vulnerability of energy supply chains. In this era of polycrisis, where economic, political, environmental, and social crises are simultaneously intertwined, energy security is emerging as a core agenda item in national strategy, transcending the mere securing of resources. In this context, South Korea faces fundamentally constrained crisis response capabilities due to its structural isolation as a ‘grid island,’ compounded by grid congestion during the energy transition and fragmented governance across legal frameworks. Accordingly, this session will discuss the stance our government should take amid these international circumstances. We aim to redefine the power grid and flexibility assets as security infrastructure and derive practical implementation tasks based on domestic and international case studies.
