Around the world, social interests and practical activities are being emphasized for the sustainable life of the present and future generations. In the field of education, we aim to become a society where students can learn the values, actions, and lifestyles necessary for a sustainable future and social transformation through Education for Sustainable Development. To this end, we pursue a paradigm for a future in which environmental, social, and economic responsibilities are balanced. In addition, as a basic education that meets the value of sustainability, it is based on literacy, that is the ability to interpret information, consult, and make meaning beyond the ability to read and write text.
The praxis of sustainable peace must be supported by public awareness and understanding, and it begins with global citizenship. In other words, the education of citizens in which all people are members of the community with global values and philosophy beyond the members of a specific group and, at the same time, fulfill their rights, responsibilities, and duties should be given priority.
This session focuses on literacy for global citizenship. The praxis of sustainable peace depends on the citizenship that drives citizens' transformational participation. For this, global citizenship education is being emphasized, but in reality it is being raised as a difficult task to realize. Therefore, we discuss global citizenship literacy that understands and utilizes this concept of global citizenship, and examines its expandability through case studies dealt with in the international community.
