Biography

Sung-Yoon Lee is Kim Koo-Korea Foundation Professor of Korean Studies and Assistant Professor at The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University. He is also Faculty Associate at the Program on U.S.-Japan Relations, Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, Harvard University. He is the author of The Sister: The Extraordinary Story of Kim Yo Jong, North Korea\'s Most Powerful Woman (London: Pan MacMillan, June 2023; New York: PublicAffairs, September 2023). Dr. Lee\'s essays on the international politics of the Korean peninsula and Northeast Asia have been published multiple times in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, LA Times, Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, Christian Science Monitor, CNN.com, etc. He is a regular contributor at The Hill. Dr. Lee has testified as an expert witness at the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs Hearings on North Korea policy and has advised senior officials and elected leaders, including the President of the United States. In 2013, the Guardian called Lee \"[a]mong the most insightful and prescient chroniclers.\"
