The UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage defines safeguarding as a living process grounded in intergenerational transmission. It identifies education as a key means of implementation, recognizing intangible cultural heritage (ICH) as a social resource that embodies community values, identity, and practical wisdom. Education serves as a vital public mechanism for transmitting this heritage to future generations. Integrating ICH into school learning environments promotes respect for cultural diversity, mutual understanding, and solidarity, thereby strengthening the foundation of inclusive societies. Experiential learning rooted in traditional knowledge and community practices further enriches both the content and methods of education, offering students meaningful and living learning experiences.
This session draws on ICHCAP’s teacher workshops and curriculum development initiatives to explore how ICH-based education can extend into international cooperation. In doing so, it highlights how values cultivated in the classroom can connect to solidarity at the global level.
