Due to North Korea's repeated military provocations, the situation on the Korean Peninsula is becoming increasingly volatile. As efforts to resolve these conflicts have yet to become visible, the Korean Peninsula urgently needs concrete efforts for lasting peace.
In light of this, this session aims to examine how to promote interest-based cooperation to break the impasse between the two Koreas. The Green Détente Initiative, unveiled by the Yoon Suk Yeol administration, includes steps to normalize inter-Korean relations, such as cooperation on drinking water and sanitation and the joint use of water resources. This session seeks to examine how water-a fundamental human right-can be used as an instrument to advance inter-Korean relations.
