Climate crisis threatens the survival and safety of citizens and has a huge impact on the national economy. According to the McKinsey report, the recent worldwide phenomenon of COVID-19 pandemic has also raised similarities with climate crisis. The seriousness of climate crisis is affecting the national economic structure and promoting a change to a low-carbon, eco-friendly economic system.
In this context, the government is actively responding to the climate crisis and presenting a Korean version of the New Deal to improve people's quality of life and create new industries. The key to the New Deal policy is to promote the transition to the green economy and strengthen the eco-friendly, low-carbon economy, taking COVID-19 pandemic as an opportunity.
The acceleration of the Green New Deal signifies a practical and proactive scheme to cope with the climate crisis and improve economic structure. In particular, Jeju Island, aiming for clean and coexistence values, has persistently implemented ‘Carbon Free Island 2030’(CFI 2030) policies against the climate crisis and is the optimum region to lead the Korean New Deal.
We would like to seek strategic policies of ‘Green New Deal Frontier Jeju’ to lead the Korean New Deal policy and make the place of discourse for the successful implementation through this year’s Jeju forum session.
