New Southern Policy, Achievements and Challenges over the past two years: In the Aspect of Foreign and Security Policy

President Moon Jae-in made public his New Southern Policy at the Korea-Indonesia Business Forum on Nov. 9, 2017. With the so-called three Ps at its core - people, peace, and prosperity - the policy is aimed at enhancing South Korea’s cooperative ties with ASEAN countries to the level of its relations with the four major powers surrounding the peninsula - the U.S., China, Japan, and Russia. Now it is time to look back on the last two years. In addition, the ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit will be held in Busan, in November 2019, which will be the largest international event and accelerate the New Southern Policy since the launching of the Moon government. At this point, this session will discuss how the leaders of this Asian region perceive and experience the New Southern Policy, how South Korea and ASEAN can cooperate in the future, and what the real tasks for the future are.
