This year, changes in global leadership are expected to be seen, starting with the inauguration of the new administration in the U.S., the second phase of Chinese leadership, elections in some leading European countries, and the appointment of a new U.N. secretary-general. In particular, uncertainties in the world order are being witnessed more than ever with the deepening conflict between the U.S. and China, geopolitical tension, a return to trade protectionism, populism politics, and the decline of liberalism. It is high time for us to discuss the factors that could change the world order and destabilize Asia in the future, and to gather wisdom for a joint response to the challenges. The keynote speeches given by the world leaders will provide a useful opportunity to suggest and share views on their future vision of Asia.
