Megawati Sukarnoputri is Indonesia's first female president and the daughter of Indonesia's first president, Sukarno. She participated in the national student movement in college and entered politics in earnest in 1983, and was elected as the leader of the Democratic Party in 1993. She visited South and North Korea simultaneously in 2002 and delivered a message of peace, including a call for dialogue, to North Korea. She visited Korea in 2013, visited Jeju, and toured clean industrial facilities and tourist attractions, including the Samdasoo factory.
