The advent of the Trump administration means a transformation of American foreign policy. The U.S. will improve its relations with Russia while it will adopt a hard-line approach toward China. On the other hand, the U.S. under Trump pays more attention to improving the trade balance with traditional allies such as South Korea and Japan rather than to facilitating cooperation in security issues. This session will discuss the regional order under the American leadership in East Asia in general and the American foreign policy on the Korean peninsula and denuclearization of North Korea in specific.
