Ambassador AHN used to be Republic of Korea’s Ambassador to the United States (2013-2017). He also used to work as Deputy Minister for Trade, Ambassador to the European and Belgium, and the First Vice Foreign Minister. After leaving the government service, he worked as the President of the University of North Korean Studies (2018-2022). Ambassador AHN is now Chair Professor of North Korean Studies at the Kyungnam University. Ambassador AHN studied international relations and law at the Seoul National University (B.A.), the Georgetown University (M.S.), the Korea National Open University (LL.B.) and the Georgetown Law School (LL.M.). He received a Ph.D. degree (Hon) in political science from the Kyungnam University.
