Biography

LEE Shin-wha is a Professor at the Department of Political Science & International Relations and Director of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Unification Studies at Korea University. She holds Ph.D. from University of Maryland, College Park. Her career includes serving as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard’s CFIA; Special Advisor to U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan; Chair’s Advisor of the East Asian Vision Group(EAVG); Advisor to the U.N. Secretary-General’s Peacebuilding Fund; and Ambassador for International Cooperation on North Korean Human Rights(2022-2024). She has held Visiting Professorships at Princeton(2004), Columbia(2009-2010), MIT(2016-2017), and NUS(2025). Her recent publications include “The United Nations, Indo-Pacific and Korean Peninsula: An Emerging Security Architecture” (2024); “Democratic Peace and Externalized Accountability: Alliance Commitment beyond Institutions in NATO and the Indo-Pacific” (2026); and “South Korea’s Indo-Pacific Minilateral Security amid Great Power Rivalry and ‘America First Uncertainty’”(forthcoming).
