Biography
Former Deputy National Security Advisor to the President KIM Hyung Zhin is a Diplomat with more than three decades of experience in Korean diplomacy. He held several key positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including Director-General for North American Affairs and Deputy Minister for Political Affairs, and also served as Foreign Affairs Secretary at the Presidential Office. He later served as Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Belgium and the European, as well as International Relations Ambassador for the Seoul Metropolitan Government. From 2021 to 2022, he served as Second Deputy Director of the National Security Office at the Blue House.
Throughout his career, Ambassador KIM specialized in ROK-U.S. relations and North Korean nuclear issues, playing a significant role in policy coordination and the management of major diplomatic and security affairs through senior positions in both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Presidential Office. He also contributed to the development of Korea’s foreign and security policy based on his extensive diplomatic experience related to the United States and China.
He graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in Economics and earned a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Princeton University.
