Biography
Dr. KIM Sung Bae is the 8th President of the Institute for National Security Strategy (INSS). He previously served as Chief Research Fellow at INSS (2007-2025), Chief of the Foreign Intelligence Bureau, National Intelligence Service (2016-2020), Policy Advisor to the Minister of Unification (2006-2007), and Administrative Officer of the National Security Council (NSC), Office of the President (2002-2005).
He earned his Ph.D. in Political Science at Seoul National University. He is the author of many scholarly articles, including North Korean Nuclear Threat and South Korean Identity Politics in 2006 (2012), Reading and Responding to North Korean International Politics in the G2 Era (2014), and Transformation of Modern State Concept in Korea (2012).
