Biography
LEE Sung Hoon currently serves as Director of the Department of Security Strategy Studies and Head of the Defense Industry Strategy Center at the Institute for National Security Strategy (INSS). A graduate of the Korea Air Force Academy (1991), he served as a fighter pilot with the 17th Fighter Wing. He earned a Ph.D. in Political Science from Yonsei University (2007) and subsequently worked as a researcher at the Center for Asia Pacific Policy at the RAND Corporation (2009–2010). His career has encompassed a range of senior positions, including an assignment at the Secretariat of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (2013), Full-time Professor at the Graduate School of National Security, Korea National Defense University (2014–2016), Director for Security Policy at the National Security Office of the Blue House (2017–2019), Commandant of the Joint Staff College (2020), and President of the Joint Forces Staff College (JFSC) (2021–2022). He specializes in defense industry strategy, the ROK-U.S. alliance, nuclear and space strategy, and national science and technology.
