Professor of History at Korea University. He specialized in modern and contemporary German history and historical theory, and received his Ph.D. from the University of Bielefeld in Germany for his research on Max Weber. He studied genocide and the Holocaust from the perspective of peace education. Currently, he is researching the formation of modern sentiments among the Korean people while elucidating the cultural influences between the West and East Asia through a transnational approach. His major publications include Max Weber and Historicism (in German, 2000), Genocide (2005), History Education in Germany (2009), The Future of Commemoration (2019), and German-East Asian Encounters and Entanglements (Co-authored in English, Routledge 2021).
