HAN Geon Soo
Biography
HAN Geon Soo is a UNESCO Chair (GCED and Cultural Diversity) and a professor of the Dept. of Cultural Anthropology, Kangwon National University, Republic of Korea. He studied anthropology at Seoul National University (B.A.) and University of California at Berkeley (M.A., Ph.D.). He is a member of the Governing Board of UNESCO APCEIU, member of the Executive Board of Korean National Commission for UNESCO. He was the first chairperson of Committee of Cultural Diversity of Korean government. He served as the president of several professional academic societies including Korea International Migration Studies Association, Korean Family Studies Association, Korean Society of Education for International Understanding. He is also a member of the Policy Advisory Committee of Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He has advised UNESCO category II institutions including ICHICAP, ICM, APCEIU in Korea. His main research topics are African studies, multicultural society, international migration, cultural diversity, cultural heritage, and global citizenship education. Recently he published many articles on African migrants cultural diversity, global citizenship education, 2023 Recommendation on education for peace, human rights and sustainable development, UNESCO creative cities, migration and intangible cultural heritage.
