후쿠다 야스오 전 일본 총리는 1990년 중의원에 당선돼 정계 입문했고, 2012년까지 의원직을 지냈다. 이후 외무성 정무차관을 거쳐 관방장관을 지내는 등 여러 정권에 걸쳐 내각에서 중추적인 역할을 했다. 2007년 총리로 선임된 후, 일본의 경제적 측면 뿐만 아니라 한국과 중국 등 ‘아시아 외교’를 중시해 동아시아 평화 유지에 기여한 바 있다. 2008년 공직에서 물러나 민간 분야 우호 증진을 위해 여러 영향력 있는 단체에서 요직을 지냈으며, 대표적으로 중국 보아오포럼의 이사장 등이 있다.

후쿠다 전 총리는 2015년에 이어 두번째로 제주포럼을 찾는다. 행사 둘째날인 27일 수요일 오전 열리는 세계지도자세션에 참가할 예정이다.


Yasuo Fukuda is the 58th Prime Minister of Japan. Fukuda served as a member of the Diet from 1990 to 2012. During this period, he served as the LDP Chairman of the Finance Committee. From 2000 to 2004, he was the Chief Cabinet Secretary to Prime Ministers Yoshiro Mori and Junichiro Koizumi. Fukuda became Japan’s 91st Prime Minister in September 2007. Since leaving office, Mr. Fukuda has been working for friendly and cooperative relations between Japan and other countries. His most notable effort in this area is serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Boao Forum for Asia. He also plays an important role in many other bilateral friendship associations.
