약력
Prof. Nobuyasu Abe is serving as a Commissioner of the Japan Atomic Energy Commission since April 2014. He has been involved in disarmament and arms control works in a variety of capacities. He served as United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Disarmament Affairs (2003-06) and Director-General for Arms Control and Science Affairs (1997-99) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. Prior to the current assignment he served as Director of the Center for the Promotion of Disarmament and Non-Proliferation at the Japan Institute of International Affairs (2008-14).
He performed three ambassadorial assignments; to the IAEA and other international organizations in Vienna (1999-2001), Saudi Arabia (2001-03) and Switzerland (2006-08). He contributed to the works of the International Commission on Nuclear Nonproliferation and Disarmament (ICNND; 2008-10) as a member of its advisory board. He currently serves as a member of the Asia-Pacific Leadership Network for Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament (APLN; 2011-) and the Group of Eminent Persons for the Entry-into-force of the CTBT (GEM; 2013-).
He studied at Tokyo University (1964-67), at Amherst College (1967-69, BA), and at Harvard (Weatherhead) Center for International Affairs (WCFIA; 1986-87).
He is a member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS; 1984- ). His writings include an essay titled, “Denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula; A New Perspective” for Korea Review. He was born in Akita, Japan, in September 1945.
아베 노부야스 교수는 2014년 4월부터 일본 원자력 위원회의 회장으로 있다. 아베 교수는 여러 방면에서 군축과 무기 관리와 관련된 일에 관여해왔는데, 군축 UN사무차장(2003-06), 일본 외무성의 군축 및 과학 부서의 단체장(1997-99)을 역임했다. 지금 직책을 맡기 전에는 일본국제문제연구소의 군축과 비확산 센터의 센터장을 역임했다.
아베 교수는 IAEA와 비엔나에 있는 다른 국제기구(1999-2001), 사우디 아라비아(2001-03), 그리고 스위스(2006-08)에서 총 세번 대사급 직책을 맡았다. 또한 비확산과 군축 국제 위원회에 자문위원으로서 기여했고, 현재는 아태지역의 비핵화 조직은 APLN과 UN CTBT산하의 GEM의 회원로서 활동하고 있다.
