약력
Dr Yongsoo Hwang is the principal researcher in Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute. Before rejoining KAERI he used to serve as the Director General of the Center for Strategic Policy & Research in Korea Institute of Nuclear Non-proliferation and Control (KINAC.) He has worked in KAERI for more than twenty-five years in the filed of nuclear waste disposal and its safety, the nuclear fuel cycle policy, the US and the ROK nuclear cooperation for the East Asia Nuclear Non-proliferation jointly with the US SNL, the 123 agreement work, Public and Stakeholder Engagement (PSE) for spent fuel storage in the ROK and etc. Before enrolling KAERI he worked for the long term lost closure radiological safety Assessment of used nuclear fuel disposal projects in the US and the European society at his school CAL and LBNL.
He received his BS in the field of Nuclear Engineering from Seoul National University and MS and Ph D majoring at Nuclear Chemical Engineering from University of California, Berkeley.
He served as a Member for the Advisory Group for the Multilateral Nuclear Agreement for the Director General of IAEA in 2004-2005. He also worked as an Advisory Member of Nuclear Safety and Security Commission the top national regulatory body for safety and security of nuclear activities in the ROK, between 2013 and 2014. He also worked as a visiting fellow at Center for Strategy and International Studies (CSIS) at DC between 2010 and 2012. He serves as a member for the special issue committee and an educational funding committee for the Korean Nuclear Society, a board member for the international affairs for the Korean Radioactive waste management Society, and other academic societies in the ROK.
