President Huh Hyang-jin was born in Jeju in 1955. He attended the Department of Tourism Management at Jeju National University and proceeded to obtain his master’s in Tourism Management at Kyunghee University, and his doctorate from Sejong University in Business Administration. He became a tenured lecturer in March of 1984 at the Department of Tourism Management of Jeju National University. In 2004, he was appointed the Dean of the College of Economics and went on to become elected as the president of Jeju National University in February of 2011. He put forward the catch phrase of ‘New Leaders in the Glocal Era, Elite University which seeks Innovation’ as the future vision for the university. In order to achieve this goal, he has actively sought the 6 strategies for enhancement as well as other specific plans that come under them. His other activities included working as the vice president for the Korea Tourism Society, chairman for the Jeju Innovative Association, as well as the director of the Jeju Development Institute. He is currently serving his second executive term as the president of Jeju National University after being elected on February 19th 2014.
