아키야마 노부마사는 히토츠바시대학교 법학대학원의 국제 및 공공정책학부 교수로, 2022년부터 2024년까지 학장을 역임했다. 그는 일본국제관계연구소의 부연구원도 겸임하고 있다. 현 직책을 맡기 전까지 그는 2016년 4월부터 2018년 3월까지 비엔나 소재 일본 국제기구 대표부 참사를 역임했다. 또한 2000년부터 법무성 공공안전심사위원회와 기시다 후미오 총리가 창립한 ‘핵무기 없는 세상을 위한 국제인물그룹’ (the International Group of Eminent Persons for a World without Nuclear Weapons)의 위원, 그리고 NPT 평가 회의 대표단의 일본 대표 자문으로 활동하고 있다. 최근 발표한 저서에는 “’No first use’ in the context of the U.S.-Japan Alliance”, Asian Security, (2021), “AI Nuclear Winter or AI That Saves Humanity?
