약력
해럴드 태너(Dr. Harold Tanner) 박사는 미국 노스텍사스대학교(University of North Texas) 역사학 교수이자 군사사연구센터(Fellow of the Military History Center) 연구위원이며, 역사학과 학과장이다. 그는 1985년 런던대학교 동양·아프리카학부(School of Oriental and African Studies, SOAS)에서 석사학위를 취득하였고, 1994년 컬럼비아대학교(Columbia University)에서 중국 근현대사 전공으로 박사학위를 받았다.
태너 박사는 20세기 및 현대 중국사와 중국 군사사를 전문으로 연구해 왔다. 주요 저서로는 『The Battle for Manchuria and the Fate of China: Siping, 1946』(Indiana University Press, 2012)과 『China: A History』(Hackett Publishing, 2009)가 있다.
최근 저서인 『Where Chiang Kai-shek Lost China: The Liao-Shen Campaign, 1948』(Indiana University Press, 2015)에서는 중국 국공내전(1945~1949)에서 결정적 전투 중 하나였던 요심전역(遼瀋戰役, 1948)을 중심으로, 만주 지역에서의 중국 공산당과 국민당 군대 간 지상전의 상호작용과 워싱턴 및 난징에서의 미국 외교를 함께 분석하였다.
태너 박사는 후버연구소(Hoover Institution), 미국군사사학회(Society for Military History), 중국군사사학회(Chinese Military History Society), 미 육군 인민해방군 연례회의(United States Army’s annual People’s Liberation Army Conference), 중국사회과학원(Chinese Academy of Social Sciences), 미 제7함대 예비군(U.S. Seventh Fleet Naval Reserve) 등에서 중국 정치·군사사와 전략문화에 관한 발표를 진행해 왔다.
