약력
고려대학교 정치외교학과 명예교수로 재직 중이다. 재단법인 국제정책연구원 이사장이다. 제 35대 통일부장관(2009.2~2011.9) 및 대통령 통일정책특별보좌관(2011.9~2013.03)등을 역임하였다. 고려대학교 정치외교학과 학사, 동 대학원 석사를 거쳐 미국 캘리포니아 로스엔젤스 대학(UCLA)에서 국제정치학 박사학위를 받았다. 사회과학원 연구위원, 세종연구소 선임연구위원을 거쳐 1995년 고려대학교 정치외교학과 교수로 부임한 이래 2020년 2월 정년퇴임하였다. 고려대학교 재임 시 일민국제관계연구원장, 기획실장, 기획예산처장을 역임하였다. 학자로서 한미관계, 북한 핵문제, 한반도 통일문제, 동아시아 국제관계, 미국외교정책, 미일 관계, 한일 관계 등을 연구하여왔다. 뿐만 아니라 인간안보와 환경안보 등을 포함한 비전통안보 이슈에 대해서도 많은 관심을 가지고 연구하고 있다. 최근 한국외교정책 및 한반도를 둘러싼 동아시아 국제관계 전반의 안보에 관하여 연구 중이며 수십 편의 영문 및 국문 연구논문과 저서가 있다, 최근 저서로는 《헤게모니의 미래》(고려대학교출판문화원, 2020), 《한국외교정책론》 (박영사, 2022)등이 있다.
Dr. Hyun In-Taek is Professor Emeritus of Political Science and International Relations at Korea University. He served in the Lee Myung-bak Administration as Minister of Unification from February 2009 to September 2011, where he was responsible for all matters related to national unification and inter-Korean affairs, including North Korean policies, inter-Korean dialogues and exchanges, and public education on national unification. Dr. Hyun also served as Special Advisor to the President for Unification Policy from September 2011 to February 2013 in the Lee Myung-bak Administration. He received his B.A. and M.A. at Korea University. He holds a Ph. D. in international relations from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He has published numerous academic articles and books both in Korean and English including “An Enduring Dilemma on the Korean Peninsula: The North Korean Nuclear Conundrum and South Korea’s Strategic Choices” (2016, in English), The Future of Hegemony (2020, in Korean), and South Korean Foreign Policy (2022, in Korean).
