약력
마이무나 모드 샤리프는 유엔인간정주계획(유엔 해비타트)의 사무총장으로, 2017년 유엔 사무총장에 의해 임명되었다. 샤리프 사무총장은 현재 말레이시아 페낭 섬 시의회 시장이며, 2011년에는 최초의 여성 시의회 의장으로 임명되었다. 샤리프 사무총장은 시장으로서 "더 깨끗하고, 친환경적이며, 안전하고, 건강하게 일하고, 살고, 투자하고, 놀 수 있는 도시"를 조성하기 위해 시의회를 이끌고 있다.
샤리프 사무총장은 1985년 시의회에서 지역 계획 담당으로 경력을 시작했으며, 이후 2003년 기획 개발 국장으로 승진했다. 또한 2009년부터는 조지 타운의 도시 재개발 프로젝트의 시행을 지휘하며 조지타운 세계유산을 설립하는 첫 GM이 되었다.
샤리프 사무총장은 영국 웨일스 공과대학교에서 명예 도시 계획학 학사 학위와 말레이시아 과학대학교에서 계획학 석사 학위를 받았다.
Ms. Maimunah Mohd Sharif is the Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN‐Habitat), appointed by the UN Secretary‐General in 2017.
Ms. Sharif is currently Mayor of the City Council of Penang Island, Malaysia. Prior to her appointment as Mayor, she was the first woman to be appointed as President of the Municipal Council of Seberang Perai in 2011. As mayor, she leads Municipal Council of Seberang Perai to achieve “cleaner, greener, safer and healthier place to work, live, invest and play”.
Ms. Sharif began her career as Town Planner at the Municipal Council of Penang Island in 1985. In 2003, she was promoted to Director of Planning and Development, which she was responsible for structure, local plans, and development control of Penang City projects. She also led the implementation of Urban Renewal Projects in George Town. In November 2009, she became the first General Manager to establish George Town World Heritage Incorporated and manage the World Heritage Site which was inscribed by UNESCO in 2008.
She holds a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Town Planning Studies from the University of Wales Institutes of Science and Technology, United Kingdom and a Master of Science in Planning studies from the Malaysia Science University.
