He graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in sociology and received a master's and doctorate degrees from the same graduate school. He is currently an Professor Emeritus of sociology at Daegu University and has won the 8th Academic Award at the Independence Hall of Korea. 서울대학교 사회학과를 졸업했고, 같은 대학원에서 석사•박사 학위를 받았다. 현재 대구대학교사회학과 명예교수이며 독립기념관 제 8회 학술상을 수상하였다. 주요저서로는 “윤세주 - 의열단.민족혁명당.조선의용대의 영혼” 『혁명과 의열-한국독립운동의 내면』『민중의 귀환, 기억의 호출』『한국 근대민족운동과 의열단』『의열투쟁Ⅰ-1920년대』 등이 있다
