Jose Ramos-Horta was former President of Timor-Leste. Before he was renowned as a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Dr. Jose Ramos-Horta was known internationally as a fiery advocate for the people of Timor-Leste (then known as East Timor) and at the same time, a highly skilled diplomat, negotiator, and peacemaker. In exile from his country for the better part of three decades, he had been the international voice of the Timorese population while they struggled to survive as a nation against one of the most brutal regimes of our time. Finishing his term as President of Timor-Leste, Ramos-Horta has devoted considerable time and efforts to creating a better world for the next generation, especially in support of human rights and the defense of minority people. In this session, Ramos-Horta will give a keynote speech on ways to overcome the legacies of the past and to promote peace in the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia through his experience.
