The Yerae Recreational Housing Complex was carried out as one of the six leading public-led projects as a contribution to build Jeju Free international city in 2002. The project was ruled out by the Supreme Court, seeing that the project does not meet the nature of establishing an amusement park in Jeju Island, in 2015. The expropriation of land therefore stands invalid. This adjudication was surely unexpected as it was the first to withdraw the approval on the construction of an amusement park in 30 years. As a result, the construction, and the project itself have been suspended since 2019.
In 2020, JDC had settled domestic, foreign lawsuits and disputes with investors however, some demands still remain current as there are litigations for land returns, request for re-implementation of business, and increased compensation.
In addition, due to the invalidation of the existing project license, the method of development and the level of compensation are seen to be significant variables in terms of re-implementating and settling the busines, as the process of securing preliminary feasibility of the project is expected to be the next legal process.
Hence by inviting experts in urban planning, tourism development, and architecture as well as representatives of the landowners, the session plans to seek collaborative, effective development and promotion method for The Yerae Recreational Housing Complex.
