[Jeju Peace Institute, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province 제주평화연구원, 제주특별자치도]<BR><BR>The women divers start to learn swimming in shallow seas, called aegibadang, at the age eight and spend their whole life at sea until retiring at halmangbadang (the sea zone for senior divers). The Jeju haenyeo, a representative example of sustainable, eco-friendly seafood gathering, were registered as one of the Intan-gible Cultural Heritages of UNESCO in December, 2016. This session will examine tasks to keep and glo-balize the haenyeo culture, a treasured heritage of the island.<BR><BR>제주해녀는 8살이 되면 ‘애기바당’에서 헤엄치며 몸으로 바다를 터득해 그때부터 ‘할망바당’에서 은퇴 할 때까지 평생을 바다 밭에서 보낸다. 해녀는 강한 여성공동체 모습을 띤다. 친환경적인 해산물 채집으로 지속가능성의 대표적인 사례로 꼽히는 제주해녀가 지난 2016년 12월 유네스코 인류무형문화유산으로 등재됐다. 이 세션은 제주의 아름다운 유산 인 해녀문화를 지키고 세계화하기 위한 과제를 짚어 보는 자리다.
