FORUM

At the forum, domestic and international participants from 60 sessions dealt with various issues ranging from international cooperation & security, economy & business, culture, gender, community development, and the environment, and had wide discussions on regional and global cooperation and challenges beyond the Asia’s paradox for new Asia. And the Trilateral cooperation Secretariat participated in the forum for the first time, organizing 3 concurrent sessions, and contributed to the Jeju Forum’s goal of peace and prosperity in Korea, Japan, and China.

Northeast Asia currently faces excessive competition and escalating tension surrounding historical and other related issues among countries in the region. While this situation could be described as the so-called ‘Asia Paradox,' trust-building among countries has become one of the top priorities in Northeast Asia. The Park Geun-hye administration’s Trustpolitik was developed from an understanding of this trust-deficit situation in Northeast Asia, and the Northeast Asia Peace and Cooperation Initiative is one of the key factors of this Trustpolitik. For building trust and solving the trust-deficit dilemma of the region, this session will discuss the Northeast Asia Peace and Cooperation Initiative.

오늘날 동북아 지역은 경제력, 인구, 기술정보력을 바탕으로 나라 간 교류와 협력이 급속도로 증가하고 있습니다. 그러나 그 이면에 과도한 경쟁과 견제 그리고 과거로부터의 긴장과 갈등요인도 커지는 이른바 ‘아시아 패러독스’ 현상이 나타나고 있습니다. 박근혜 정부의 신뢰외교는 바로 이러한 동북아 지역에서의 신뢰위기 상황에 대한 고민에서 출발하였으며, 동북아 평화협력구상은 이러한 신뢰외교의 중요한 한 축을 구성하고 있습니다. 신뢰위기에 직면한 동북아 딜레마를 풀어나가기 위해 협력과 대화의 관행을 축적하여 신뢰의 인프라를 구축해 나갈 필요가 있으며, 이러한 취지 하에 동북아 평화협력구상을 논의해 보고자 합니다.
