Biography

Alek SIGLEY is a Ph.D. candidate in Stanford University’s Modern Thought and Literature Program, with a minor in anthropology. His dissertation is an ethnography of Seoul-based North Korea experts, examining how knowledge about North Korea is produced under conditions of limited information access and intense politicization. He has published in Asian Anthropology, The Asia Pacific Journal of Anthropology, North Korean Review, and in public venues including The Diplomat, The Guardian, and Wolgan Bukhan. From 2018 to 2019, he was a postgraduate student at Kim Il Sung University’s College of Literature.
