Biography

Professor Steven JACKSON specialises in the Sociology of Sport, Media and Policy at University of Otago, New Zealand. He is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario (Canada) and the University of Illinois (USA). His research mainly focuses on: Globalisation, Media and National Identity and he has published 15 books and over 100 scholarly publications. Professor Jackson is a past-President of the International Sociology of Sport Association (ISSA) and Research Committee 27 of the International Sociology Association (ISA) and an Honorary Research Fellow of the North American Society for the Sociology of Sport (NASSS). In addition to his post at Otago Steven has served as a Visiting Professor in Brazil, Canada, China, Czechia, Finland, South Africa and Taiwan. He is currently a Corresponding Editor for the International Review for the Sociology of Sport and co-Director of the New Zealand Centre for Sport Policy & Politics.
