Biography
JEONG Minseung has been a journalist at The Hankook Ilbo, a leading daily newspaper in Korea, for 20 years. Since beginning his career in 2005 as a police reporter, he has covered a wide range of beats including society, economy, public opinion, industry, international affairs, politics, and national administration. In 2017, he established the first Southeast Asia bureau among major newspapers and was appointed as its inaugural bureau chief. Based in Vietnam he traveled across all 10 ASEAN countries, covering major events such as the assassination of Kim Jong-nam, the Rohingya refugee crisis, two U.S.-North Korea summits, and various ASEAN summits and ARF meetings. During the time, he recognized the growing importance of decentralized international cooperation among local governments. Since returning to Korea, he has focused on this theme, reporting and writing in-depth series such as “The Era of Regions, Local Diplomacy.” JEONG is a recipient of multiple prestigious journalism awards including the Human Rights Reporting Award, the Korean Journalist Award, the Reporter of the Month Award, and the Gender Equality Media Award.
