Biography

Mayor PARK Heong-joon has been serving as the mayor of Busan Metropolitan City since 2021.
His career spans various fields. He worked at JoongAng Daily and the Busan Citizens’ Coalition for Economic and Justice (CCEJ), and entered politics as an advisor on the Presidential Policy Planning Committee. In 2004, he was elected as a member of the 17th National Assembly and subsequently held significant roles in the government as the Chief Presidential Secretary for Political Affairs and Special Advisor for Social Affairs. He also served as the Secretary-General of the National Assembly in 2014.
He has taught many students as a professor in both the Department of Sociology at Dong-A University and the Department of International Studies at Dong-A University's Graduate School of International Studies.
PARK Heong-joon was elected as the mayor of Busan in a by-election in 2021 and was re-elected in the 2022 local elections as the 39th Mayor of Busan. He continues to strive for the city's ongoing development and is pushing various projects to enhance Busan's global competitiveness.
Furthermore, in 2024, he is working towards national balanced development and a true era of decentralization as the chair of the Governors Association of the Republic of Korea (GAROK).
